VOTE 2018

Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country and the world. And the imperative to vote is genuinely nonpartisan.

The Brief

Heads up! You’ve got the weekend to put together a poster aimed at your fellow students at the School of Visual Arts and Design – it has to say vote on it and it needs some kind of quote, get working!

That’s the project brief for this poster, and I have to say, for such an open-ended prompt, it really did lead to some creative doodles that never saw the light of day. I ended up going with an illustration I created based on an image from Robert Kennedy’s campaign for president in 1968 – I thought the imagery of hands reaching out combined with the call to vote would motivate my fellow students to do something. To, obviously, go out and vote.

I hoped that they would choose to care for their fellow humans and chose to vote for someone that would help, but if not, that at least they would participate in the democracy our country was built on. Lofty goals, I know, but the 2018 midterms sure were a time, weren’t they? Funny how looking back on things makes us feel about something.
