Celestial Things

The contemplation of celestial things will make a man both speak and think more sublimely and magnificently when he descends to human affairs. – Marcus Tullius Cicero

The purpose of the WordPress Blog was to learn how to use the management system offered as well as creating a consistent system across multiple pages. The project was designed as an introduction into WordPress.org although the topic of the blog was ultimately left open.

I chose to direct my blog towards space exploration with a primary focus (for now) on planetary systems that have been discovered or will be discovered. This was inspired by the recent discovery of 7 Earth-like planets in a system being called TRAPPIST-1, a discovery lead by astronomers at the University of Liège, Belgium. I picked similar planetary systems for consistency throughout the blog posts and selected images to accompany the information that were free for use according to Creative Commons, or only required attribution to the source.

The blog would cater to those with at least some groundwork knowledge of space and planetary systems. I did realize that rather than exclude those with no knowledge, I could create a part of my blog that could act as a launchpad of sorts towards others learning more, and created a page in accordance, thus expanding the target audience. The page acts as a glossary for terms that are specific or their meaning might not be intuitively deduced like a red dwarf, or a G-type Main Sequence star.
